About Puako & Wailea ~ Puako Vacation Rental

Puako & Wailea

puakoExplore the shoreline of Hawaii, from north to south, east to west, and from sea level to the occasionally snow capped top of Mauna Kea and end your day in the comfort of your vacation home.  At MacArthur & Company Vacation Rentals we will make sure your “home on the Big Island” is right for you.  From quaint Puako cottages to luxurious Mauna Kea homes, we can find a Hawaii Big Island vacation rental that will make your visit unforgettable!

Considered by many to be one of the most spectacular reefs in the state, Puako is also one of the most well developed fringing reefs on the Big Island. Corals are sparsely abundant on the reef flat, which extends from the shore to about 200 meters offshore.

puakoHawaiian Sunset from Puako
Each evening as the sun begins to set, you will feel the ocean calling you to its side to experience the fabulous array of colors and textures of the sunset. No two are alike; some days the setting sun is a brilliant yellow or orange ball on the horizon; another evening may find the hues a mixture of pink and purple. Often, cloud patterns form breathtaking art painted across the sky. Whether a visitor or kama’aina (native born) , taking a break for sunset is truly a special Island style ritual.

Wailea Bay
This gem of a spot has always been one of our favorite sandy beaches. When renting one of our homes on this beach, a short jaunt over a neighborhood footpath gets you right to the Bay. For others, it is accessible by hiking in, or driving down the newly paved path. The lava rock “island” in the middle of the bay attracts an array of colorful fishes, ideal for great snorkeling. During winter months, surfers enjoy the break on the south end of beach. Sunsets all year round, and kiawe trees for shade, what more could anyone ask? Take Highway 19 to Puako, turn right at Old Puako Road and look for the newly paved road to the quaint parking area. Recently transitioned to a Hawaii State Park, this beach also offers showers, restrooms and changing areas.
